Job description:
Key Tasks:
- Inspect, diagnose, and test light vehicles using manual and electronic diagnostic tools.
- Identify and repair mechanical and electrical faults in engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, suspension, and related systems.
- Conduct routine servicing such as oil changes, fluid replacements, filter changes, and tune-ups.
- Repair or replace worn or faulty parts including engines, gearboxes, brakes, exhausts, and cooling system components.
- Perform preventative maintenance according to manufacturer schedules and specifications.
- Carry out wheel alignments, tyre replacements, and balancing where required.
- Reassemble vehicle components and test performance following repairs.
- Operate diagnostic scan tools, hand tools, power tools, and workshop machinery safely and effectively.
- Complete accurate job cards, service reports, and repair documentation.
- Communicate repair findings and required work to supervisors, service advisors, and customers.
- Provide professional customer service and collaborate with the workshop team.
- Support apprentices and junior staff when required.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organised workshop environment in accordance with WHS requirements.
Requirements:
- Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Light Vehicle Mechanic.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Strong diagnostic and mechanical problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and service specifications.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team with strong customer-focused communication.
- Desired: Experience working on European brand vehicles.
- Desired: Basic understanding and experience of auto electrics.
- Desired: Diesel experience (50% of the workshop's volume is diesel).
- Bonus/Additions: Further understanding and/or experience with marine engines is considered a distinct advantage.
