Job description:
Key Tasks:
- Measure, cut, and install plasterboard to walls and ceilings, including fitting battens, insulation, and vapour barriers as required.
- Prepare surfaces by cleaning, sealing, repairing cracks, removing old plaster, and ensuring readiness for plaster or paint application.
- Mix and apply plaster, render, or cement coatings on internal and external surfaces, ensuring smooth, even, and durable finishes.
- Tape, set, and finish plasterboard joints, cover screw and nail holes, sand surfaces, and prepare them for final coatings.
- Install cornices, mouldings, and decorative plaster elements, ensuring accuracy and alignment with building plans.
- Perform painting tasks including patching, colour matching, surface preparation, and applying high-quality final finishes.
- Create decorative or protective finishes such as texture coats, ornamental plasterwork, and mouldings.
- Repair and restore damaged plaster or wallboard surfaces, including heritage or heavily worn structures.
- Interpret drawings, plans, and measurements to determine plastering requirements.
- Use hand and power tools safely and effectively, including trowels, floats, sanders, mixers, and cutting tools.
- Collaborate with supervisors and other trades to ensure smooth project workflow and timely completion.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work environment.
- Work both independently and as part of a team.
- Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
Requirements:
- Trade qualification in plastering or at least three years of full-time relevant experience.
- Proven experience as a Plasterer with additional painting skills.
- Drivers licence.
- Strong English language ability to understand instructions and communicate effectively.
- High attention to detail with pride in workmanship.
- Reliability, honesty, strong work ethic, and ability to work in a team.
- Desired: Experience working in residential and commercial construction environments.
- Desired: Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in hot North Queensland conditions.
